Early summer 2015

Recent Months It has been while since I uploaded a blog post, So i do apologise and hope to get back into the swing of uploading regularly again, So in the post I will just talk about the last few months and what I have gotten up too !  I finished my school year on the 14th of May ! My parents and I went to Southwold, England to visit other family members but Dad and I spending a week off the water wasn't good ? We found a way around this problem by borrowing a blow up Paddle board to paddle and explore all of the rivers and estuaries around where we stayed  I have had a lots of sailing and very little surfing over this past month,We also spent quite a lot of time filming our sailing, I will include the final edit in my next Blog Post, But for now here is one wave that Niall (My Dad) and I had together, Who do you think gets the better wave ? Let us know who you think (I am the one further down the line)      I am delighted to announce that ...

Epic Easter

Epic Easter !  This year Easter was pretty epic ! The Sun shined everyday and the Surf Pumped everyday ! I had 2 weeks of school, One of those weeks was spent in England seeing other family and the other week was spent on the beach !  During the 8 days of my Easter holiday which i was in Ireland for I had 16 sessions in the water ! Some days I had up to 4 sessions . This consisted of both Surfing and windsurfing, Each sail or surf was at least 2 hours long ! So i easily did more than 24 hours worth of time on the water !  Sadly I do not have that many photos as my photographer Niall Mellon (My Dad) was also on the water with me or at work, But enjoy the ones I do have, And also check out the Short video which I made.  Angle taken with my new K4 Harness mount Dads sick Custom Quattro Also check out this short video I made from one of the Windsurfing sessions. In the video i was sailing on a 3.3 and an 81 litre board... The waves were ...
Finn Mellon GoPro Sailing Video This Easter i decided to video one of my sailing sessions and edit it into a little video,  I used my New K4 Harness mount to get the angle and a GoPro to recorded. I sailed Gowlane for about 4 hours in the sun this day, I was on a 3.3 sail, The waves about shoulder high  This is the video I made, I hope to do more filming and edit more videos in the coming few months. *Please watch in HD for best experience* Finn Mellon GoPro sailing session from Finn Mellon on Vimeo .
IWA Brandon Bay Windsurfing event 2015 The first wave event of the Irish Windsurfing Association’s year took place on the 29th of March, and was supported by Jamie Knox. We had fantastic conditions for the event, which was a great relief to get 2015 of to a great start. Last year the IWA had 4 events but neither one was run due to the lack of wind on each date which was is very odd for the west coast of ireland not to have wind at least on one of the dates. We had a good forecast for the weekend of the event. The day before the event was super windy, I sailed fully powered up on a 3.3 sail as did most of the others sailing that day, at Gowlane. After a quick briefing at Jamie’s shop it was off to Fermoyle which was clean head high sideshore and Blowing ! I quickly rigged up my 3.3, 3.6 and 4.0 GA Sails, Which was a first for any comp I have done! The first heat was to be of the gold fleet,The Heats were scored on 3 waves and 2 jumps in 13 minutes which meant quite a rush t...

Winter Sessions

Since I have come back from South Africa we have had quite a bit of Good Windsurfing and lots of very good surf ! These are pictures from some of the sessions we have had since SA. The first windsurfing session Dad and I had at home after our holiday was an epic windsurf at Gowlane, Pretty windy 4,2 Cross off ! The waves were epic ! Small swell with quite a lot of Seconds on the period produced mast high waves, Sadly we didn't take many photos as we were enjoying ourselves too much ! But here are some of the few we have Niall Launching a big Arial   These pictures are of me surfing, This was one of the many days this winter of massive swells, So i decided to go and find some more sheltered waves, I went exploring looking for something that was worthy surfing, And i was luckily enough to find this new wave and surf it for the first time ! It was a heavy beach brake all to my self mwhah ;) I must Praise my new Wetsuit ! I got myself a Matuse 5/4 hooded winter ...

South Africa

I am just recently back from my trip to South Africa ! Just before christmas Mom, Dad and myself decided to book a windsurfing/surf trip away for 3 weeks to Cape Town South Africa. As we were driving to the Airport in Shannon it began to snow ! So we were all pretty happy to be leaving the cold ! When we arrived to cape town after 13 hours flying and we were greeted by 35 degrees and lots of sun which was a lot more pleasant than the freezing cold ! Cape Town Going to Cape Town we didn't except there to be much diving involved, but we were wrong ! In-fact Our trip involved lots of driving ! On our first day we drove all the way to Cape Point, which was about a 2 hour drive away, Probably would of been quicker if we hadn't gotten lost !! Once we got there we went windsurfing, We didn't have epic conditions but the fact it wasn't 4 degrees and raining was pretty epic ! Elands Bay Then our next session was at Elands, which is about 200 miles away from Cape t...
